A 5-axis CNC machine moves the cutting tool along five axes simultaneously — X, Y, Z (linear) plus A and C (rotary). This lets the tool approach the workpiece from virtually any angle, machining complex curved surfaces and undercuts in a single setup without repositioning. Fewer setups means better geometric accuracy between features and shorter overall cycle times.
In 3+2 (positional 5-axis), the rotary axes are set to a fixed angle and locked while the three linear axes machine. This covers most aerospace and automotive structural parts. Simultaneous 5-axis keeps all five axes moving at once — needed for turbine blades, impellers, and organic surfaces where the tool orientation must constantly change to maintain optimal cutting angle and surface finish.
The VX-11i is available with Fanuc OM-F or Siemens 828D. The VX-14i runs Siemens ONE. Both controllers support full 5-axis RTCP (Rotary Tool Centre Point) compensation, ensuring that the tool tip stays on the programmed path even as the rotary axes move. Specify your preferred controller when enquiring.
