Common Questions

A CNC lathe (turning center) rotates the workpiece against a stationary cutting tool to produce round, cylindrical parts — shafts, fittings, flanges, bushings. A Vertical Machining Center (VMC) does the opposite: the workpiece stays still while a rotating spindle mills it. Lathes are the right choice whenever the part is fundamentally round; VMCs are for flat, prismatic, or milled features.
Hunter STH (STH6130, STH6150) is our economy toolpost range — pick STH6130 for smaller shafts and fittings, STH6150 for larger chucked work up to 500 mm swing. Flash FL280 is a compact collet-only lathe built for fast, repeatable bar-fed work with no chucking step. Star STL5 is a slant-bed turret lathe with an 8 or 12-station bi-directional turret, suited to complex multi-operation parts in a single setup. The FL280 is a collet-only machine — it has no chuck at all. Collet work clamps the bar stock directly via a collet rather than chuck jaws, which is faster to change over and better suited to smaller-diameter, high-volume bar and small-part turning. If your work requires chuck clamping, the Hunter STH or Star STL series are the right fit.
Turning length ranges from 250–350 mm on the FL280 up to 600 mm on the STH6150, and 300–550 mm on the STL5. Toolpost/turret capacity ranges from a standard 4-station toolpost (STH series, with an 8-station turret option) up to an 8 or 12-station bi-directional turret on the STL5 for complex multi-operation parts.
